COLUMBUS — In Columbus, three women went beyond “see something, say something.”

Police say they saw a woman being beaten and tied to stop it before police arrived.

Based on what Columbus police tell Eyewitness News and court documents, it appears as if the three put themselves at risk to help a stranger get out of serious trouble.

“If they’ hadn’t called us we might not have known about it. So we give them all the credit in the world,” said Columbus police Lieutenant Matt Harris.

About 10 a.m. Tuesday, security cameras watching over the local Target store parking lot, police say, captured Sean Roberts attacking a woman, possibly his girlfriend.

“The suspect pulled the victim down to the ground. There was a physical altercation that took place,” he said.

Witnesses told investigators there was yelling and screaming and that Roberts grabbed hold of the woman’s hair, hit her, threw her into a parked car then threw her down in front of a truck.”

The women dialed 911 and yelled at Roberts to stop but didn’t intervene. According the court documents, they were afraid of him, describing Roberts as “enraged”.

They said he called them names and at one point threatened to blow up their cars if they didn’t mind their own business. Even the victim warned the women Roberts would find them and he would kill them.

When police officers arrived the 23-year-old denied hitting the women and gave them a hard time.

“He was abusive to the officers, very disorderly, a lot of profanities, screaming,” Harris said.

Roberts is charged with intimidation, criminal confinement and battery.
